Like the rest of Dominica, our beaches defy the usual expectations of the Caribbean beach.

Our beaches are distinctly different and have far more character.

Dominica's volcanic origins have graced our coastlines with  unique rocky beaches, pebbly beaches, black sand beaches and  brown sand beaches. Of course, we do boast a few white sand  beaches like our sister islands. But even our white sand beaches  stand out among our neighbours' because they are found alongside  unique natural features like Red Rock formations or have  freshwater rivers flowing to them.

Some of our beaches even have sub-aquatic hot springs in the  shallow sea water, creating a unique and spa-like experience in a  warm 'sea bath'.

So, what kind of beach do you want to discover today...?

Pointe Baptiste beach
White Sand
The north of the island has all our white sand beaches, from the classic palm-fringed beaches around Portsmouth, to the secluded coral-based sand at Pointe Baptiste. In between you'll also find several variatons!

 Londonderry beach Black Sand
All along the east coast and parts of the west coast have black sand - a testament to our volcanic geology. Mero on the west coast offers safe swimming; the east coast beaches do have strong currents.

Hot water pool at Soufriere Hot Water with your beach?
In the south west you'll find two beaches with hot springs! At Champagne you can snorkel among rising bubbles of hot water, while at Soufriere (photo left) hot water comes up right at the shore.
